Typically the board renders 2–3 recommendations at the conclusion of each biannual meeting to the CJCS for consideration and action as deemed appropriate. 36 2010-10-01 2011-09-30 d75771f9-a72e-4f05-8f9c-137baed6d224 Recommendations Fully Accepted Percentage Board of Visitors, National Defense University Department of Defense For a variety of its own reasons not applicable to the Committee, the agency may implement all/most of the recommendations, but few times recommendations are not implemented. n/a 2010-10-01 2011-09-30 The NDU president requested assistance from the Board in reorganization of the research centers. Board co-chairman General Carlton Fulford (Ret.) conducted an in-depth study and offered three recommendations: 1) Make no organizational changes, 2) Enhance the responsibility and authority of the Vice President for Research, or 3) Reorganize and centralize research activities within NDU. NDU-P chose the third option, tasking the research centers to develop an implementation plan, resulting in all the centers reorganized under INSS, CASL and the NDU Press placed under the Vice President for Research, and the creation of a University Research Council (URC). The URC’s mandate is to foster innovation, responsiveness and collaboration across the research enterprise at NDU. In all of its undertakings, the Council supports an educational and research climate that fosters and protects free expression, rigorous analysis, and open intellectual exchange. 80 2010-10-01 2011-09-30 c6e8b037-f33e-4813-8e98-cf93ecc9485c Recommendations Partially Accepted Percentage Board of Visitors, National Defense University Department of Defense There are sometimes a few proposals which were not funded in their entirety, those few being scaled back from their original level of requested funding (allowable under the program). n/a 2010-10-01 2011-09-30 Some recommendations are ongoing and will require time to fully implement. The BOV strongly encourages that significant attention be paid to cyberspace operations and identifies NDU as responsible for education in that arena. The Membership urges NDU to take a stronger leadership role in incorporating cyber in JPME and the NDU curriculum and recommends that ways in which NDU can take more of a thought leadership role on national policy, interagency process, international coordination, and lead the academic debate on cyber be evaluated. 20 2010-10-01 2011-09-30 2010-10-01 2011-09-30 2013-07-09 http://explore.data.gov/resource/datasets/c5i3-bb9j Gannon (J.)
